Class Response

In class we were working on food webs and food chains. A food chain follows a path which animals find food. A food web shows how plants and animals are connected and shows the organisms that give energy to each other. An easy way to think of foodwebs and food chains is that its energy that flows through an ecosystem. I like how food chains work becuase it is a simple organized way to understand the balance in the prey vs. predator cycle. For example a food chain could be: Hawk(eats)Snake(who eats)Rat(who eats) Grass hopper.

Symbiosis Project

These clear pictures that show parasitism were taken in the woods in Kendall Park, New Jersey. The difference between symbiotic relationships is small but very large. In these photos it shows parasitism between fungi and a tree stump. Parasitism is a symbiotic relationship which two organisms interact while one is benefiting and one is being harmed. The fungus in this picture is the parasite and the tree stump is the host. The mushroom is decomposing and harming the tree stump. Parasitism is important in nature because it helps balance out the food web in an ecosystem. Most parasites are small but do much damage to their host. For example, without parasites there would be a big quantity of one species because the parasites usually tend to go for the bigger hosts. So it’s a chain reaction. A parasite varrys in sizes from very small to pretty big. Some parasites you cannot even see! Then some are feet long. I think parasitism is a different way of living but something that must be done. Parasitism is an easy way for them to live. Since there is little competition and it sustains the food chain I accept this symbiosis in my life. It is hard to avoid parasitism in the world so you must allow what happends. Not every thing can change.

A super tomato? That's crazy. In London on October 26Th scientists discovered from research that a tomato was changed and made with the nutrients usually in dark berries. With that nutrients this tomato changed to purple in the process. The tomato may possibly fight cancer in mice. Mice that were genetically changed to get cancer and ate the tomato lived an average of 40 days longer than those mice who didn't. Scientist are happy because this information can lead to bigger and better things, maybe even food that can fight cancer for humans. I agree and am happy with this research scientist are doing. I think that genetically changing tomato's or food is brilliant because just from eating we can become healthier.

Imagine a planet that is a giant firey gas ball almost twice the size of jupiter. This planet is named WASP-12b and has been discovered by scientist recently. This planet is atleast 4,000 degrees and orbits its own star quicker than any other planet we know in todays scientific knowledge. WASP-12b orbits its star every single day. Wow! I think that is amazing. It just makes you think that you never know what new and exiting things can appear They used a new program called the SuperWASP project to find the WASP-12b. The project measured the the difference in light when its blocked by its parent star and when it was not. The WASP-12b is located 870 light years away from earth or 5114009186351706 Miles. As all this might be exiting now I think that greater and more interesting are to come.

Math is

Math is helpful more than it ever used to be. I used to think math had no meaning to it, but now I have realized that you use it every day. For example, percent increase is used in taxes on common luxuries. I will now not go to the store with out enough money. Math is intricate becuase of all the vocabulary, formulas, and numbers. Such as coeficiant, pemdas,c=pi x R.Caulculators are my friends. They help with all of the different numbers. Math is surprising becuase you dont know what else is out there to learn! In conclusion math could be what ever you want it to be as long as you try to suceed.

Wind is a powerful renewable source. In wind theres Air currents and global wind patterns. The global wind patterns are Pervailing Easterlies, the westerlies , horse lattitudes, and doldrums. The earths roatation affects the path of the winds. Which causes many things. We also learned about land breezes and sea breezes. A sea breeze is during the day and the cooler air from the water replaces hot air over the shore. A land breeze is when the cooler air over shore replaces hotter air over sea.
Wind is usually the least expensive form of energy. Creating wind energy leaves no harmful waste to the enviroment. Wind is unlimited!

Oil is one of the most used items in the modern day society. You would think it's easy to acquire, unfortunately it is not. Oil is formed from the remains of plants and animals that was in the ocean many millions of years ago. The remains got covered in all sorts of things. When more layers came upon each other heat and pressure works on the source and turns into oil. For oil to be kept you must have a source, a reservoir and a lid. Unfortunately people cannot make oil or attain it by them selves. Big oil companies spend millions of dollars to get this liquid and sell it to the world. In 1996 1,047,200 million barrels of oil. Its running out. Especially because the USA is the top oil consumer in the world. Its up to the next generation to preserve natural wonders.

Culture Technology(social studdies)

One advancement in technology that i believe has made the greatest impact on society is the cell phone. It has revolutionized the way people communicate. It makes people feel safe, known , helps people socialize. The cell phone is a great way to share information quick and easy. You can text, call, send pictures , send videos and more. One main reason the cell phone is so popular is that its portable and can be used in many places around the world. It all starts with the click of a button!

Recently, We made a podcast. Our subject was the life and facts on Geraldine L Richmond. She was a chemist who studied liduid liquid interfaces. We went on Gerage band to make the podcast. We researched from many sites and found out she made many books and was a professer at the university of Oregon. Did you know she won more than 6 awards? The podcast helped me conect with future technology. Geri as most people call her is a great chemist and is known through out Oregon and other parts of the USA.

Any minute in the earths life time could be its last. Rodrigo Nemmen, the studies lead author and a visiting graduate student at Penn State University. He and Einstein's theory is that massive black holes could be ripping through 9 big galaxies. Black holes are invisible but they're force is so powerful it can eat 10 earth sized planets a month and emit out 50 times a yearly amount of energy the sun does in seconds. Einstein theorized massive black holes spin make space itself rotate. Black holes make a magnetic field and bombard gas particles that just came in., extremely fast. The spin of a black hole is almost as fast as the speed of light. When it shoots gas back out into space it could possibly destroy the atmosphere of nearby planets and create new stars.

I think this is wonderful that scientist are getting this far in knowledge. I have heard people say black holes were fake. But, clearly they have an understanding on it. It is pretty scary that we could die from it any time, and the fact that its powerfull enough to kill us in a second and rip our limbs off. Not a pretty sight.
